Tech Tip Thursday: Lastpass Passwords

Lastpass Robot Passwords

In today’s tech-driven, inter-web interface, we all have passwords aplenty. Most of us humans have our go-to default passwords we have used for years. Unfortunately, there are evil bandits around every URL just waiting to snatch your password and do mischievous activities with it. Well, my weak password-wielding friend, I have good news for you. To help increase the security of your beloved password-protected sites, let robots build your next password. Let’s face it … computers are smarter than humans and can create some uber-secure passwords on your behalf. I have enlisted the password Swiss Army knife, LastPass, to take care of all my nail-biting password creations. The best part about LastPass is I don’t have to reference my password Rolodex any longer!

One of the best things about using LastPass is that it is not software on your computer. That means that if you were to lose your computer, it was stolen, or broken you can get instant access to your passwords from any new computer right away! I use my MacBook Pro when at the office and on the go but at home I work from my iMac. I never have to worry about not having my password when jumping from machine to machine.

It works like this…

Step 1: Go to https://LastPass.com

Step 2: Setup and account

Step 3: Install the LastPass browser extension

Step 4: Go about your care free browsing way

Step 5: When prompted for a user name and password LastPass will automatically enter the info (provided it is stored)

Step 4: Agh… now that’s working smarter and safer.

CONCLUSION:

LastPass has saved me countless hours by storing my passwords securely and entering them securely when prompted. In the olden days, I would have to reference a spread sheet of passwords, which was inefficient and insecure. I would recommend this service to anyone, friend or foe!
